Rainbow ValleyTo reach the
Rainbow Valley Conservation Park you have to turn off the Stuart Highway 75 km
south of Alice Springs, and from here its 22 km long a 4WD track stretching east
which has sandy patches. The track to the Rainbow Valley is a dry weather road
and is often closed after rain. The park has some of the most spectacular views in Central Australia. The red and cream colourful sandstone cliffs are part of the James Range and are most fascinating late in the day at sunset when the cliffs turn into an intensive red. After rain the claypans are filled with water and you can take some stunning photos. There are also some unmarked trails around the bluff area. There's a campground within the Conservation Park with some basic facilities (picnic tables, pit toilet and barbecues), where you have a great view to the cliffs. There's no water available, so make sure to be totally self sufficient. Camping fees are payable.
