Oodnadatta
Oodnadatta is a little town, situated at
the point, where the Oodnadatta-Track heads west to Marla and the old Ghan-Railway
north to Alice Springs.
In 1912 Reverend John Flynn, who founded
the Royal Flying Doctor service later, established the first Outback-Hospital in
Oodnadatta.
Today Oodnadatta has approx. 200
inhabitants and is an important service-centrum in the Outback of South
Australia with a police station, a small hospital, vehicle repairs and a general
store.
The Pink Roadhouse is a remarkable
building in Oodnadatta. Here you get everything you need for the further
journey. Meals and beverages are also offered here. In the Pink Roadhouse there
is also the post office of Oodnadatta.
One should visit the Pink Roadhouse to
get information about road-conditions. Here you also get the key for the old
station of Oodnadatta, which is a small railway museum today and worth seeing.
The owners of the Roadhouses spent a lot of time to sign remarkable places in
the district.
From Oodnadatta you can go north to the
Witjira National Park, Dalhousie Springs, Mt Dare Homestead and Alice Springs.
William Creek is about. 200 km south of Oodnadatta on the Oodnadatta-Track.
