Gawler Ranges National Park is located in the western Part of South Australia, about 500 km north-west of Adelaide on road (see also the Map 1).  It's a fairly new park and was formerly Paney Station, one of the early pastoral holdings in the Gawler Ranges. The Gawler Ranges is popular to tourists visiting the Eyre Peninsula.

Today the Park is home to a range of plants und animals including many rare ones. Hills and rugged gorges with seasonal water flows form the landscape of the Gawler Ranges. The climate is warm to hot in summer and cool to cold in winter. The best time to visit is in winter and spring.

There's a park entry fee of $7.00 per car and an additional camping fee$6.00 per car. You have to purchase the park-pass before entering the park in Kimba, Wudinna or Minnipa.

Most of the tracks within the National Park are suitable for 4WD only. The track from Paney Homestead, where the Ranger's Headquarter is located, to Old Paney and further on to Minnipa is suitable for a 2WD vehicle too.
