Devils Marbles Conservation Reserve
The
Devils Marbles are situated 122 km south of Tennant Creek on the Stuart Highway
and are the main feature along the way to Alice Springs. They are a collection
of giant granit boulders, looking like giant marbles and are the result of
erosion over milliions of years.
The
access to the conservation reserve is easy. It's just a short side road from the
Stuart Highway. An easy short bush walk commences from the carpark on the
western side of the road, with signs explaining the marbles.
There's
a simple bush camping area at the southern end of the reserve with fire places
and a pit toilet. No water and firewood is provided. So be well equipped, if you
want to stay there. I did it in April 2003 and it's a really great spot for bush
camping.
